Nomad Life

It's been a while since I've been thinking to writing about this topic, and I believe that many people who share this lifestyle will also relate. Those who were born with an insatiable desire to explore the world, those who never quite identified with their neighborhood or hometown, and those who make this desire the driving force of their lives. Who those some people call “spirit birds”.

“Thinking about it in the context of a few thousand years ago, leaving the "tribe" we belonged to would have meant certain death…'“

Well, this nomadic lifestyle of jumping from place to place and meeting incredible people, experiencing different locations and waves on this planet, isn't too shabby. However, as with everything in life, there's a price to pay, and every choice comes with a sacrifice. We pay the high price of being far away from the people we love the most, our home base, and, so to speak, our tribe. Thinking about it in the context of a few thousand years ago, leaving the "tribe" we belonged to would have meant certain death. Of course, we've evolved, and with globalization and technology, everything is possible nowadays, even staying "close" while being far away.

“Since I was 14 years old, I started traveling inside and outside of Brazil for competitions. For long years, it was one trip after another…”

Since I was 14 years old, I started traveling inside and outside of Brazil for competitions. For long years, it was one trip after another. So, in a way, life on the road always made me feel at home. The hard part for me was coming back home hahaha! But I always went on short trips or, at most, two-month-long adventures. It was one year ago that I finally "left" my tribe to live abroad, on the other side of the ocean. Sometimes the missing becomes overwhelming, and there are tears shed over a memory or a phone call. However, the feeling is that I am in the right place, in the world! Since I'm writing this from inside a van traveling along the European coast. (By the way, the next blog will be about this marvelous road trip.)

But getting back to the point, farewells and reencounters become routine for us, spirit birds. I find myself constantly meeting incredible people and making lifelong friendships, but after having to say goodbye without knowing when I'll see them again or if I ever gonna see them. And that's the hardest part, how do I say goodbye?

“How do I sustain this lifestyle without having a job that keeps me in one place?…”

Sometimes I wonder, "Why do I have this desire to keep traveling? Why am I not satisfied living in my city like some people who seem perfectly content near their families, in the same job, for their whole lives?" But when I stop and think about everything I've lived and experienced, I would choose to live it all over again without a doubt. And speaking of work, that's another point. How do I sustain this lifestyle without having a job that keeps me in one place? I think in the last few years of competing, I was motivated more by the travel opportunities it provided me than by the passion for the competition itself. Nowadays, working in content creation and digital marketing is what I love to do, and I can carry it in my backpack wherever I go.

“We embrace a simpler way of life, where luxury is found in plane tickets rather than expensive houses and cars…”

But in conclusion, nomadic life is a thrilling and enriching experience, filled with incredible adventures, unforgettable encounters, and the freedom to explore the world on our own terms. It may come with its fair share of challenges, such as distance from loved ones and farewells, but the rewards are immeasurable. We embrace a simpler way of life, where luxury is found in plane tickets rather than expensive houses and cars. Our life's purpose becomes the fuel for our souls, continuously striving to work and maintain this lifestyle with a bank account that's neither too low nor too high but a bag filled with stories to tell.

So, to all those who share this nomadic lifestyle or dream of embarking on this journey, let this be an inspiration and encouragement. Embrace the responsibility, embrace the longing and simple life. Remember that the ultimate luxury lies in the experiences and connections we make along the way. Keep working hard, keep exploring, and keep fueling your passion for this extraordinary way of life.

Safe travels!
